TOM SACCENTI MCs New Watch Fundamental is Generating His Mark

After earning an associate degree in criminal justice from Marion Technical College in 1999 and graduating from the authorities Academy in 2000, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and another in psychology from Trine University in Indiana, where he worked just before coming here.
Question: What attracted someone to campus police work?
Answer: I went from municipal police into a campus realistically in order to get my education paid for and after that planned on going here we are at the municipal world. I found myself in it and I just loved it. I like everything concerning the campus world. Become a previous youth pastor, I like operating with the younger generation … and people who think outside the box.
I am going to never revisit municipal policing. I am going to lie in campus policing through-out my career. … Hopefully I’ll stay at Marietta through-out my career.
Q: So obviously the area’s made a good impression in the car?
A: I’m from Summersville, W.Va., that’s where I had been born, so I always wanted to relocate here we are at the southern part of Ohio not less than to increase my kids. … One is just polite, kind, when we enjoy that small village feel.
Q: Main points it concerning the job at Marietta College that drew your interest?
A: I saw the advertisement, and I actually knew an old professor here, Mike McNamara (who was) working at Trine University where I worked. So I just stopped by need to him some questions. … When I heard him raving about the school and exactly how great the people were, I thought, this sounds like a place that we need to certainly be a part of.
Q: In what you describe your top five-and-a-half months here?
A: It has been fantastic. It’s been running non-stop, but it’s been fantastic. I’ve had just tremendous support away president and from our vp, Bob Pastoor, and after that our students.
We’ve had great conversations with our students. We’re changing jam that hasn’t worked during the past … to make it an improved environment to the confident people.
Q: Let s discuss some of those changes?
A: Something you need we’ve instituted recently that’s been an enormous hit is … a fresh community policing model. Each (residential) building is assigned their unique police officer. … That officer just type of takes ownership of that building, and they chance a monthly program for the reason that building. Sometimes it’s a fun program. This month we did “Cops and Cupcakes” … and stayed with the kids and got ideas exactly what they desire to check out changed. In one month, we’ll be doing R.A.D., Rape Aggression Defense.

Q: You’ve continued your education while you’ve worked to be a municipal and campus police officer. Let s discuss you working on now?
A: I’m midway through a master’s degree (in criminal justice) from the University of Cincinnati. I’m also making a bachelor’s in theology through Southeastern Bible College.
Q: You worked to be a youth pastor before. How’d you wanna make the transition to police activites?
A: You deal with the alike people – individuals that call for. … You’re really just there helping people.
